Designed by Derek Tynan Architects the
Printworks consists of 10 apartments and 4 studio/retail
units. The design is generated by an interest in the
physical grain of the city and the creative use of the
existing buildings and gap sites to increase the residential
population. The model of the raised court, as a sectional
means of reinhabiting the upper floors of the city fabric,
is used to adopt the block for this intensification
of residential use.
The site for the project is an 'L' shaped
section of the Temple Lane /Eustace Street block, with
frontage onto 2 Streets. Elements to be retained were
the existing 2-storey early 20th century facade on the
Temple Lane and the majority of the 18th century building
from part of the frontage onto Essex Street.
