Seán O’Casey Bridge
- Location: The Liffey
- Architect: Brian O’Halloran & Associates
- Completed: 2005
The contract to build the new Docklands pedestrian bridge on the River Liffey was let to Mowlem & Company by the Docklands Authority in Feburary 2004 and completed in 2005. Located to the east of the Talbot Memorial Bridge, the Docklands pedestrian bridge is now important link between the north and south quays.
Brian O’Halloran & Associates and O’Connor Sutton Cronin were appointed architects and engineers for the bridge, respectively, following a competition in late 2002. The jury selected the design because of its unique design characteristics and its understated elegance, which create a sense of place and enhance this section of the River Liffey. The bridge links the Government and cultural quarter in Merrion Square with the IFSC, thus connecting the IFSC more fully to the city. The bridge serves to link the residential communities, both existing and emerging, on both sides of the Liffey. It also further animate the Liffey quayside by providing greater and easier pedestrian access.
