Liberty House
- Location: NEIC
- Architect: Gardiner Architects
- Completed: 2004
The brief was for the refurbishment in 2 phases, of an existing 181 unit flat complex, built in 1936, and located within the North East Inner City area.
The development of the proposals involved a detailed consultation process with the existing tenants and the production of solutions whereby substandard units in terms of size and layout could be eliminated. Requirements for insulation, sound proofing, fire regulations, refuse recycling and the hierarchy of public / private and secure spaces between blocks were also considered.
The sequence of the refurbishment has required the temporary de-tenanting of flats, along with their temporary relocation, to facilitate the sequencing of the construction stage.
