Reflecting City: Dublin is a mixed media exhibition, website and  architectural walking tour, focusing on the ongoing urban regeneration of Dublin. The city of Dublin has experienced massive change over the past decade, fueled by an influx of private and public investment – Reflecting City examines this process.
The objective of the project is to provide a permanent yet evolving historical, educational and cultural record of Dublin’s recent architectural heritage. One that gives detailed, highly interactive information about areas of regeneration in Dublin in order to generate more informed awareness amongst the public about the built environment.
Reflecting City was initially launched at the UIA International Architecture Exhibition in Berlin during July 2002, as a journey down the river Liffey through inner-city districts such as Temple Bar and the HARP in Dublin. It was relaunched and expanded again at the UIA Congress in Istanbul in 2005 and  has now further broadened in scope, to include other significant areas of renewal including:

  • The Heuston Gateway
  • The Liberties / Coombe Area
  • Temple Bar
  • O’Connell Street & the North East Inner City
  • Trinity College Dublin
  • The Georgian & Governmental Quarter
  • Docklands
  • Ballymun

Within Reflecting City, one can view interviews from the main players in this urban drama - the architects, the city planners and the communities that must live in these new environments - or take a virtual tour around the significant areas of renewal within the city. This mixture of views and places represents a balanced look at what has happened to Dublin City in recent times.
Reflecting City: Dublin  represents a permanent resource, for the citizens of Dublin, which can be updated on an annual basis, reflecting the ongoing transformation of the city. The fundamental principle driving the project is that good urban planning, design and architecture transform cities and impact on people's lives in a truly positive way. To achieve such good planning and architecture we need an integrated vision in the community as well as informed and enlightened clients.
Reflecting City: Dublin is kindly sponsored by Dublin City Council, the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland, Dublin Docklands Development Authority, the Arts Council and Culture Ireland.
